The 7th edition of the Operafest Lisboa & Oeiras festival opened in August 2026 with Giacomo Puccini’s final, unfinished masterpiece Turandot, celebrating its centenary. Performances are held open-air at the Cloisters of the Cartuxa Convent in Caxias (Oeiras), on the outskirts of Lisbon.

Madama Butterfly is a tragic opera by Giacomo Puccini, about Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese geisha who marries American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton, believing their marriage is permanent. Pinkerton abandons her shortly after the wedding, only to return years later with a new American wife to claim their son, leading a devastated Butterfly to commit suicide.

La Traviata is a tragic opera by Giuseppe Verdi about Violetta, a Parisian courtesan who sacrifices her chance at true love with Alfredo to uphold his family’s reputation. She leaves her lavish life for the countryside, but is forced to separate from Alfredo by his father, leading to a tragic, illness-stricken death.
